Before 11-year old Autumn Ossello volunteered with the Mendocino Audubon Society in California, a bird was just a bird.
After spending her summer vacation participating in shorebird surveys, however, Autumn found that learning about birds was fun, and that she wanted to learn more about the threatened birds that make the beach their home.
