Flycatcher Trail Living Classroom
Tulsa Audubon is partnering with Jenks Public Schools and other community stakeholders to create the Flycatcher Living Classroom. The space will educate high school students in habitat function and conservation management and will become a model backyard habitat from which they will host community events to make the Tulsa metroplex a truly bird-friendly community, one yard at a time. Goals include (1) creating a model habitat space that provides examples of transferable ideas for community homeowners, (2) providing a habitat space designed to attract birds and other wildlife for hands-on learning opportunities for ornithology, biology, environmental science, and horticulture studies, (3) providing a stage from which to host seminars educating the community in residential water conservation and habitat development leading to a bird-friendly community, and (4) engaging a diverse and new audience through this innovative approach. This project is being led by Todd Humphrey.
