The Bishop Paiute Tribe’s Conservation Land: A Hub of Community Stewardship and Education

The Bishop Paiute Tribe’s Conservation Land: A Hub of Community Stewardship and Education

Eastern Sierra Audubon Society will use the planning grant to strengthen partnerships with the Bishop Paiute Tribe and Bishop Elementary School, holding meetings with those partners and piloting educational and stewardship events. They will also foster new relationships with the Eastern Sierra Land Trust and Native Plant Society, with the goal of growing native plants to support their programs. Ultimately, they are working toward having the Tribe's Conservation Open Space Area become more of a space for environmental education and community stewardship of natural and cultural resources. This will include healthy living initiatives for the partnering participants, including a relationship with the Toiyabe Indian Health Clinic, located on the Bishop Paiute Reservation. This project will be led by Hillary Behr.
