“Go Green” with Miss Rhode Island

Allison Rogers has contributed to the country's sustainability movement in a variety of unique capacities – from working with universities, to the Miss America Scholarship Organization, to the U.S. Capitol. In her most recent position, Alli served as the Executive Director for the Green the Capitol Program at the U.S. House of Representatives, where she worked for the last four years. The mission of Green the Capitol was to transform the U.S. Capitol to a model of sustainability and to reduce the energy usage of the U.S. House of Representatives by 50%. As a result of this historic initiative, over $5 million of American taxpayers' dollars were saved annually in reduced energy, water, and resources through the adoption of sustainable business operations.

Representing her home state as Miss Rhode Island 2006, Alli was the first contestant to compete in the Miss America Competition on a “Go Green!” platform. Her service included working with businesses, schools, and community organizations throughout the country learn how to save money while transitioning to sustainable business practices. Alli's work has included bringing together diverse communities to create positive change, inspiring new audiences through positive encouragement, strategic support, and creative avenues.

It was her experience as Miss Rhode Island that led her to realize that women throughout America have an incredible opportunity to create change through the power of their voices, the power of their work, the power of their families, the power of their roles as community leaders, and the power their pocketbooks. As a TogetherGreen Fellow, Alli will work to support women across America in the conservation field. With the use of digital media, she will create awareness about inspiring American stories of sustainability, citizen leadership, and economic growth created by sustainability-focused American small businesses, and conservation projects throughout the country.

Alli's vision is to empower and support other inspiring women across the country working towards environmentally and economically sustainable solutions for America. Through her work with the Miss America Organization, Alli has been truly inspired by the incredible efforts led by women. Throughout her travels, one theme that has struck Alli is that despite the partisan political debate happening at the national level, it is clear to her that American people want a future that includes clean, renewable energy, and sustainable solutions that promote economic growth while protecting natural resources for future generations.
