Beauty in the Brambles

Successional Shrub Habitat is the "in between habitat" that exists before a meadow becomes a woodland. Composed primarily of shrubs, these important habitats are threatened in southeastern Pennsylvania because many landowners clear these areas, seeking a more manicured look.

Creating a native oasis in Iowa

Iowa, like most of the American Midwest, was once a lush prairie landscape, covered with native grasses, wildflowers, and vines that stood as the foundation of a vibrant ecosystem. However, when you ask people how they would describe an Iowan landscape today, the most common response is “corn.”

BeaverCount 2013

Idaho State University Outdoor Education Volunteers recently joined Portneuf Valley Audubon Society for a BeaverCount. They braved the cold to help us sample beaver habitat.

During the trip, we helped students learn how to identify an active dam versus an abandoned one.

Students inspected this riverbed for signs of beaver activity.
