What Does Green Mean to You?

Here's what your telling us

Green means consciously thinking through how you live your life – from purchases to travel to how you spend your time - with a mind toward how you can minimize your ecological footprint. It does not mean deprivation, but recognizing that the earth has limited resources and there are everyday decisions we can make to be better stewards of them.
- Jennifer, Little Rock AR

Green means using resources in a responsible way that doesn't harm others or myself. Green means leaving the world in a better state for future generations to enjoy.
- Amy, Leonia NJ

Green means life and renewal, like spring after a long winter. Being green means respecting the necessity and fragility of natural cycles; a reminder of our responsibility to sustain nature's gifts.
- Lisa, Washington DC

Green means money to me – and I think it’s possible to make money from recycling, reducing your carbon footprint, etc.
- Hope, Greenburgh NY

Green means taking care of our world the way it has been taking care of us for centuries. Our Earth gives and gives, it is time to give a little back.
- Shannon, Bad Axe MI

"Green" is a mindfulness of our impact on life around us, in both positive and negative ways... and a hope that we're mindful enough to ensure the positive outweighs the negative.
- Erin, Indian trail NC

Recently it seems that everyone and everything is going green -- from energy efficient appliances to hybrid-electric taxicabs, we're shifting towards a more sustainable society -- hooray! But to me, green means more than building high-performance buildings out of steel and glass. It's important to remember the part of 'green' that's actually green in color; energy efficiency is incredibly important, but so is the incorporation of the natural world into our shared built environment.
- Stephanie, NYC

Green to me means being conscious of the effects, both direct and indirect, of my choices and actions.
- Adrian, Boston MA

It means leaving behind a better world, for my children and grandchildren
- Jenny, Live Oak FL

To me, Green means foregoing my passion for fast, expensive foreign sports cars (that guzzle gas) in favor of the dull, uninspiring yet fuel efficient ride of my Honda Hybrid.
- Bill, NYC

Green means health. Pollution-free air to breathe into my lungs. Organic food to give me energy. Chirping birds and shady trees to reduce stress of the city.
- Chris, New York City Hong Kong

To me, Green means being considerate of our planet and the next generation. There is no room for selfishness today.
- Ed, Chicago IL

Green is life, natural, beautiful, serene and refreshing.
- Murray, Brooklyn NY

It's the little things -- reusing a grocery bag, turning off the lights, walking the extra few steps to the recycling bin, and being mindful of reducing personal waste. A few little changes multiplied by millions of people adds up to a whole lot of difference.
- Phil, NYC

To me, “green” means focusing all of our intelligence, ingenuity and will-power on the goal of preserving human life on planet Earth.
- Patrick, Washington DC
