National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest hands-on service effort to improve and enhance the public lands Americans enjoy. In 2008, 120,000 volunteers built trails and bridges, removed trash and invasive plants planted over 1.6 million trees. Join us for the 16th annual National Public Lands Day. The 16th Annual National Public Lands Day will be held on September 26th, 2009 at over 2,000 locations around the nation. This annual event: -Educates Americans about critical environmental and natural resources issues and the need for shared stewardship of these valued, irreplaceable lands; -Builds partnerships between the public sector and the local community based upon mutual interests in the enhancement and restoration of America's public lands; -Improves public lands for outdoor recreation, with volunteers assisting land managers in hands-on work. You can locate service activities or register your own project at www.publiclandsday.org. TogetherGreen is a perfect fit with National Public Lands Day! Audubon has long been a conservation partner and for the past 15 years, Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. has sponsored National Public Lands Day and encouraged Toyota employees to get outdoors and lend a hand for parks and other public places as NPLD volunteers. Thousands of Toyota employees from offices, sales and manufacturing facilities across the country are expected to join various volunteer efforts over the five-year initiative to help build volunteer conservation impact. The TogetherGreen.org web site offers additional information on the program and how everyone can Act Today to Shape Tomorrow.
