Fellows FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1) Is a certain level of education required to be eligible for the Conservation Leadership Program?
No. We welcome applicants from a variety of educational and professional backgrounds. When selecting Fellows, the Selection Committee will look at an applicant’s combined education, work, and volunteer experience.

2) Am I eligible if I do not work for a conservation organization but I am involved in environmental conservation activities as a volunteer or on a part-time basis?
Yes! We encourage you to apply if you have other volunteer or part-time work experience in conservation activities and in engaging diverse audiences. We also welcome applications from individuals who are committed to learning how to apply conservation practices in other sectors (businesses, religious groups, and community based organizations).

3) How is TogetherGreen funded?
The TogetherGreen Fellows Program is funded by generous support from Toyota.

4) What is the time commitment required to be a Fellow?
The 2008-2009 Fellows Program runs for approximately 16 months. Fellows are required to attend a 5-day Leadership Institute in the first year (Fall 2008) and a 3-day Retreat the second year (Summer 2009) of the program. Fellows are required to complete a Conservation Action Project, which can be a new project or one that builds on existing work. The time required will vary depending on the project and the Fellow’s ability to integrate the project into existing work commitments. We encourage applicants to discuss these time commitments with their employers before applying.

5) Do I need to have my Conservation Action Project finalized before I apply?
No. In your application, we ask that you describe a specific action and outcome you would like you reach as a Fellow. There will be opportunities to refine your Conservation Action Project during the Fall 2008 Leadership Institute.

6) What is the timeline for the selection and notification process?
Applications are due June 27, 2008. The Selection Committee will review applications in June and July. We will send notification letters by August 31, 2008.

7) I have not identified a conservation practitioner mentor. Should I still apply?
Yes! It is optional to identify a mentor during the application process. During the course of the program, there will be mentoring opportunities from the Audubon Network and National Audubon Society staff. Fellows are encouraged to mentor and support each other, taking advantage of on-line communication platforms and in-person training events.
