NAME: Sean S. Miller

LOCATION: Washington, DC

ORGANIZATION: Earth Day Network

Sean S. Miller is a passionate believer in the potential of schools to create a conservation ethic among students. As Director of Education for Earth Day Network, Sean helped develop and facilitate the education track of the 6,000-plus-person Power Shift conference, the largest youth climate change summit in history. He also has led efforts to pass the 21st Century Green High-Performing Public Schools Facilities Act (H.R. 3021), and the No Child Left Inside Act (H.R. 3021). His work has been highlighted in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Chicago Tribune.

As part of his TogetherGreen Conservation Fellowship, Sean will expand on his expertise in green building and education by installing photovoltaic solar panels at a school dedicated to energy conservation that serves a low-income community in Washington, D.C. Teachers will use the solar panels to help students learn about a variety of conservation themes, including green jobs, energy consumption and conservation, and solar energy systems.

Read more about how Sean installed a solar system at a downtown school in Denver, and another one in the south side of Chicago. The solar panels will help the schools save several hundred thousand dollars and more than one million pounds of carbon dioxide over their 30-year warranted life-span.
