Toyota & Audubon Ask Drivers to Exit the Highway

Have you taken an animal safari in Texas? Discovered a grassland prairie in Chicago? Made friends with aquatic organisms at a 1,300-gallon aquarium in St. Louis?

Exit the Highway highlights nearly 100 nature destinations in 60 cities—and half of those destinations are Audubon Centers or Chapter sites, TogetherGreen-funded locations, or IBAs. It is the most ambitious outreach campaign yet from the TogetherGreen initiative!

Exit the Highway is rewarding nature seekers as well: For every initial pledge and for every photo of a nature stop shared online at ExitTheHighway.com, participants are entered to win a Toyota Prius v. Keep posting photos of the great outdoors at ExitTheHighway.com -- each photo tagged with #exitthehighway will count as another entry for you in the Prius v sweepstakes.

At ExitTheHighway.com, road trip itineraries offer inspiration for a day outdoors or an unexpected stop on your next road trip. From coast to coast, people can choose the destinations most appealing to them and map an itinerary to suit their travel plans. Drivers not near a highlighted city or region can suggest their own destinations to the Exit the Highway community by uploading a photo of their favorite nature spot at ExitTheHighway.com.

To date, more than 20,000 people have pledged to Exit the Highway, sharing nearly 5,000 photos documenting their trips to nature (including the above shot from Audubon Kern River Preserve in California).

You have until September 4, 2012 so continue exploring and sharing your experience. We hope you enjoy taking the scenic route.
